I vividly remember the smell of those personal pan pizzas waiting for us to finish class before lunch. I’d read my book AND even a bit extra to ensure I didn’t miss out on pizza day. I guess FOMO has really been around for a while!
It wasn’t just any old, square-cut cafeteria pizza either. It was Pizza Hut!! Now what may have been used as a tactic to get us as kids to read, inadvertently cultivated a love for literature for me. Well done to Pizza Hut and BOOK IT!, but also must give a shoutout to my first-grade teacher.
There was nothing worse than sitting in Mrs. Boone’s class knowing you had not done the required reading to receive the incentive of a piping hot piece of Pizza Hut pizza. While your friends were enjoying hot, cheesy, pepperoni slices, you were sitting there with a cold pre-made bologna sandwich on (now soggy) bread. The worst. I honestly wasn’t a huge fan of reading novel series books like my best friend was…but I knew then and there, I sure wasn’t about to pass up free Pizza Hut!
Fast forward 30 + years later and Pizza Hut is back with the BOOK IT! program for youth. It’s really the nostalgia of it all for me, and it’s so heartwarming to see my own kids share experiences that bring me back to my own childhood.
As a mom of five, if there’s one thing that I’m passionate about, it’s reading, giving, and pizza night. And thanks to Pizza Hut’s new BOOK IT! bundle, we can do all 3 at once!
The BOOK IT! bundle comes with 2 large 1-topping pizzas plus an order of breadsticks and a side of marinara sauce. It’s perfect for pizza-loving families and BOOK IT! kids with fond memories of their favorite childhood program.
Now through Dec 31, 2022, for every BOOK IT! bundle sold, Pizza Hut will donate $1.00 to its literacy partner, First Book, a non-profit dedicated to educational equity.

Oh my goodness this brought back so many memories. I think I received book it every single time because I was an avid reader. Thank you so much for this piece of nostalgia today Kesh! Now, I need to look in to see if this is an option for Kourtney as a homeschooler. Thanks again

This is definitely a throw back!!! I used to love those pizza parties (and visits to Pizza Hut). I will definitely order some and pass this deal along.
